ArmInfo. In the absence of force majeure situations, including political ones, there will be no increase in the price of gas until March 2027. Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission Mesrop Mesropyan stated this to journalists on November 6.
According to him, emphasis is being placed on solar energy, and in particular on energy storage stations, in order to mitigate the consequences of a possible increase in gas prices. The head of the PSRC noted that a corresponding [act] was adopted in May of this year, which, however, has not yet entered into force due to the need to adopt legal acts as well. The matter concerns 8 documents, which have already been approved by the PSRC; the package has been sent to the Ministry of Justice for an opinion, and after its approval, the document will fully enter into operation on December 4. After that, the process of granting quotas will begin, which will be provided by the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
It should be noted that solar energy in Armenia is experiencing a period of rapid growth: in the first half of 2026, the share of solar power plants in the country's total generation exceeded 17%, while the installed capacity of solar power plants grew from 16 MW in 2018 to 1213 MW by 2026. However, the rapid growth in generation has led to peak loads on the energy system and the need to modernize distribution networks. To address the problem of the nighttime deficit and preserve daytime energy, the Armenian government adopted a program to subsidize interest rates on loans and leasing for the purchase of electricity storage systems (the rate is subsidized by 6–10 percentage points for a period of up to 7 years). By 2031, the country plans to commission at least 800 MW of storage capacity.
