ArmInfo. Armenia has taken a step toward participating in the European Union's Customs and Fiscalis programs. At a meeting on November 5, the Armenian government approved proposals to sign the relevant agreements.
The project's rationale notes that the programs provide for cooperation between customs and tax authorities, the exchange of experience, the training of specialists, and the development of digital systems. According to the documents, Armenia's participation is planned for 2027 for a period of one year.
The Customs program aims to improve customs administration, facilitate legal trade, and combat illegal commercial activity. It is also expected to increase the transparency and predictability of customs procedures and expand cooperation with European partners.
Fiscalis is a tax cooperation program. It provides an opportunity to develop tax administration, exchange experiences and information, and strengthen the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion.
According to the justification, Armenia's annual contribution to Customs is €39,991, and to Fiscalis, €36,528.
It should be noted that the total budget for the European Union's Customs (customs cooperation) and Fiscalis (tax cooperation) programmes, calculated for the current seven-year period of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2021-2027), is €1.219 billion.
