ArmInfo. The Tourism Committee of Armenia and South Caucasus Railway CJSC (SCR) intend to work together to increase the tourist attractiveness of Armenia. This was reported by the press service of the Committee, citing the results of the meeting of the head of the tourism department Lusine Gevorgyan with the General Director of SCR Alexey Melnikov and the head of the Passenger Transportation Directorate of SCR Grant Mikaelyan. In particular, they discussed the possibilities of implementing marketing campaigns, jointly preparing advertising and information materials for tourists.
The parties also emphasized the need to organize joint targeted events aimed at attracting tourists. The Chairperson of the Committee highly appreciated the efforts of the South Caucasus Railway to develop tourism in the region and welcomed the launch of a new service for Armenia - a tourist train, which began running on June 28 as part of cooperation with the Czech tour operator Gepard Express. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to work actively in the future to achieve tangible results and increase the attractiveness of the South Caucasus Railway's tourism services.
According to the RA Tourism Committee, 691.8 thousand tourists visited Armenia in January-May, which is 9.6% lower than the same period last year.
According to the RA Statistical Committee, passenger transportation by rail in Armenia in January-April of this year decreased by 14%, amounting to 147.8 thousand people.
