ArmInfo. During a regular meeting on April 23, , the Government of Armenia approved the Strategy for the Implementation of Gender Policy for 2025-2028 and an accompanying action plan. According to the latest census data, women make up 52.8% of the population in Armenia.
The draft decision's rationale explains that the development of the document is conditioned, among other things, by the completion of the previous similar strategy for 2019-2023. Additionally, it aligns with the provisions of international conventions and declarations that have been signed and ratified by the Republic of Armenia. The strategy defines priority areas of gender policy and aims to creating favorable conditions for the realization of rights and opportunities for both women and men in all spheres of public life. It is guided by a comprehensive approach to eliminate the recurring vulnerability of women, girls, and persons with disabilities, based on human rights principles and the necessity to create conditions for the implementation of these rights.
The project proposes to establish 6 priorities to ensure gender equality policies in the following areas: governance and decision-making, socio-economic and labor spheres, education and science, healthcare, prevention of gender-based violence, violence against women/girls and domestic violence, and in the field of climate change. As Deputy Minister of Social Labor Tatevik Stepanyan noted, despite the country having a predominantly female population, World Bank research in 2023 shows that women make up only 48.2% of the RA labor force (71.2% are men).
