Solar Energy for Syunik: Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine Transforms Rural Communities

Solar Energy for Syunik: Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine Transforms Rural Communities

ArmInfo. For the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC), the sustainable development of host communities and the well-being of local residents are always a top priority. Corporate social responsibility is not just a matter of checklist reporting for the company, but a genuine, day-to-day commitment to Syunik and its people.

In 2024, the enterprise launched a large-scale energy project that has literally opened doors to the future for local communities. Through the integration of clean and energy-saving technologies, the region's villages are making a confident transition to green energy.

The scale of the initiative is highly impressive. Fully funded by ZCMC, the villages of Syunik, Sznak, Ditsmayri, Khordzor, and Bargushat received:

  • 273 solar photovoltaic stations
  • 227 modern solar water heaters

Special attention was given to those who need support the most: in the settlements of Artsvanik, Sevakar, Chapni, Achanan, and Irkenants, modern solar water heaters were installed on the roofs of 51 large families.

ZCMC allocated an impressive amount—over 227 million drams—to implement these two strategic programs.

These initiatives deliver a double benefit. On one hand, they help residents permanently cut down their high utility bills. On the other hand, they address crucial ecological challenges in the region. The ultimate outcome of the project is inspiring: the residents of these villages have completely abandoned the use of firewood, choosing clean, safe, and sustainable solar energy to power and heat their homes.
